YOUTH GROUP RESCUE MISSION DRIVE

The youth group ended a week long drive for donations for the Astoria Rescue Mission today. A very large amount of food, goods, and cash were received. Thanks and God Bless the kind hearted folks of Westport and Taylorville. Consider these words from our Lord, Jesus Christ, our savior.

Matthew 25:34-40 (NLT)

34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father, inherit the Kingdom prepared for you from the creation of the world.
35 For I was hungry, and you fed me. I was thirsty, and you gave me a drink. I was a stranger, and you invited me into your home.
36 I was naked, and you gave me clothing. I was sick, and you cared for me. I was in prison, and you visited me.’
37 “Then these righteous ones will reply, ‘Lord, when did we ever see you hungry and feed you? Or thirsty and give you something to drink?
38 Or a stranger and show you hospitality? Or naked and give you clothing?
39 When did we ever see you sick or in prison and visit you?’
40 “And the King will say, ‘I tell you the truth, when you did it to one of the least of these my brothers and sisters, you were doing it to me!’

ARE YOU DREAMING OF A PERFECT CHRISTMAS

A fireplace, warm and glowing, with children playing on the floor, a beautiful Christmas Tree in the corner.  Loaded with presents underneath and lights of red, green and yellow casts a soft glow all around you.  Holiday music playing softly and fresh cookies all baked and ready for tomorrow.  Soon, your closest friends and family will arrive, and there is no room in the stockings for coal.   Ahh, life is good you say, and for one day at least, there are no worries and all is at peace.

Whatever your picture is of a perfect Christmas, does it ever really come, or if it does, does it stay with you and leave you satisfied and fulfilled?  Perhaps, more often than not, we dream of the perfect Christmas but life just keeps getting in the way and we never really get there.  Year after year though, we struggle to achieve what we think is our perfect Christmas, only to be left feeling empty and wishing we could freeze time and not have to return to everyday life for a while.

Maybe we just need to remember what Christmas really is.  In a stable, long ago, God reduced himself to human form and was born to Mary, a Virgin.  He was wrapped in swaddling clothes and laid in a feeding trough with some hay in it for comfort.  Around him, the animals slept, or stirred and Mary and Joseph watched over him as any parent would.  Did the inn keepers know they had just denied a king a decent room to be born in? Did they know that in a field not far away, a multitude of heavenly creatures were praising God and wishing good will towards all men?

On that day, Jesus was born, and he was born as a gift to you and I, because thru him, we can obtain everlasting life.  A life so wonderful and glorious that we will look back and think our picture of a perfect Christmas was foolish and vain.  Jesus did not demand the best hotel room, the finest linen, or even the best bed to be born in, though he surely deserved it.  In much the same way, Jesus doesn’t demand us to be perfect to receive his free gift of eternal life.  He only asks us to believe in Him and recognize that we are sinful, undeserving people. He didn’t do this by coming into this world in a lavish, perfect style that was fit for a King.  He did it through humility, kindness, and self sacrifice because he wants to earn your respect and trust, even though he has the right to demand it.  He is giving us a choice that he doesn’t have to give.

If we realize this as the truth this Christmas, I guarantee we will look back on it one day as the perfect Christmas and I promise, Jesus won’t just fade away.  There will be hard times and good times, but Jesus will never leave you.  May God Bless you this Christmas Season and if you find you have more questions then don’t hesitate to call upon us here at the Westport Community Church or email us by going to the Contact page.

MERRY CHRISTMAS
